Selling chocolate on Amazon is challenging!

An orange page with flowers and the headline "Give more for every moment", above the Celebrations, M&M's, Maltesers and Galaxy logos

Context

Mars asked Amazon for one thing: more sales in the seasonal peaks. The catch: margins on a single chocolate bar are too slim, so chocolate is hard to sell, and gifting it had never been popular on the platform. But what if you could send a lot of chocolate to show your love?

The gift picker: occasion filters such as "Refresh and Recharge" above a grid of Extra chewing gum products with ratings, prices and select buttons

The greeting card configurator

What’s a gift without a greeting card, especially in the UK? We at Amazon BIL designed a make your greeting card flow, and I built it as a configurator. To avoid GDPR issues, everything happens on the user’s device: the card is rendered as a PNG locally and shared with the native share APIs.

Beyond the code, the micro-interactions and animations were mine, and so was the decision to build it as a reusable component instead of a one-off.

A theme for every season

The page changes theme for every main season, so the same campaign could come back each year with a new look.

Outcome

  • More than 10,000 cards created, each tied to a sale
  • The campaign was reused for two years, changing theme
  • The configurator was picked up by at least 5 other advertisers the following year, from phones to Barbies with accessories
